I don't think the process is the same. He hasn't started on taillights yet. Seems like it'd be hell trying to get LEDs to disperse light correctly with how the back-side of the lamp assy. is formed.
I have LED bulbs, but am going back to filament bulbs soon. They don't disperse a light pattern wide enough for me to feel safe that idiot drivers will see em.

He is right about why it looks like it is blinking at a different rate. Some LED tail light bulbs would fix this.

The gap is there so I don't have to have one LED higher then the rest. If you look at the back of the reflector the challenge of putting LED's in there is immediately obvious. Basically, they need to be arranged in a way that keeps me from having to put a LED next to one of the mounting studs. There isn't enough room to make it look right. The gap makes it possible to use the number LED's I want without having to worry about if it'll line up. Does the split bother you?

The one on Ebay is made from all new LED's. But yes, it is the same thing.

The split doesn't bother me, I just happened to notice and forgot the stud.

It would be easier and cheaper to just get LED bulbs for the tail lights then it would be to put LED's in there. I am thinking of making some running light LED's for the inner turn signals.

I've also been thinking of a way to run the center reflector full time with the parking lights. It would be dim with the parking lights on but bright with the brakes on. I've actually already worked out how to do it. Only problem is that it would drastically shorten the life of the LED's. I install them very water tight. It is not easy to remove them. I'll put it this way, when I removed the old LED's to make this new light, it took me 3 hours to get them all out.
